A knot clenched Joslyn’s stomach and moved up her windpipe into her throat. “Coincidence,” she murmured, when she could manage to speak.

Her hands trembled a little as she pulled the carafe out from under the trickling stream of coffee and sloshed some into each of the mugs.

“If you say so,” Kendra said mildly.

As Joslyn turned, a cup in each hand, Kendra pushed back her chair and stood. “I’d better run,” she added. “I have a closing this morning, and then I’m showing a chicken farm for the seventeenth time to the same potential buyer.” She looked down at her shoes. “Do you think I should wear boots instead of these heels?”

Joslyn was so relieved by the change of subject that she didn’t protest. “Probably,” she agreed, imagining Kendra high-heeling it around a chicken farm.

That was a cute excerpt right? Well, I also get the opportunity to ask Ms. Miller one question so here we go.

Ms Miller, in your never to be forgotten romance novels, do you ever use personal stories?
Yes, I use personal stories in writing, but they’re usually heavily disguised or simply a jumping-off point for working out the plot. For example, my dad told me lots of stories about his youth, and many of them served to inspire story ideas—especially the ones about old-time ranchers and the rodeo circuit. A particular favorite concerned one of his employers, a bachelor farmer whose hay crop was ruined by a sudden hard rain, with some hail mixed in for good measure. This man was outside his cabin when Dad saw him from a wisely-chosen hiding place nearby, stark naked except for work boots and socks, shaking his fist at the heavens and challenging God to “come down and fight, you so-and-so.” Modified, this became the opening scene in my historical romance, “Memory’s Embrace”, in which the hero is arguing with God. In Keith Corbin’s case, though, his anger was tied in with a deep spiritual belief, since he was a minister. Another favorite came from my mother, who was raised in Choteau, Montana. It seems there was an elderly bar-fly who rode his horse to town every day of his life and tied him up in front of the saloon. The old man eventually died, but the horse came to town anyway, for days on end, and stood there patiently waiting. I used that one, too, in “The Man from Stone Creek”. Any writings about story-telling and its effect on my writing would be incomplete without the fabulous tales my honorary grandmother, Florence Wiley, told about her childhood outside of Coffeyville, Kansas. She actually remembered hearing the shots the day the Dalton brothers tried to rob the bank in town. Later, the dead outlaws were strapped to boards and displayed along main street, to show the wages of sin is death. Fortunately, grandma’s parents were forward-thinking people for their time and didn’t take the kids in from the farm to see the grim exhibition, but plenty of others did. On another occasion, a man rode up to the gate and stood talking with Grandma’s pa, who was working in the field. The man slept in the family barn that night, and his name was Jesse James.

I know as a reader I always want to know what is going on in the author's head. I think your answer was innovative and fascinating.

MY THOUGHTS:
Although my reading was put on the back burner due to a 3000 mile change of residency, I have managed to get halfway through the book. I will be posting my full review at a later date but wanted to give everyone a "half way through review".

From the moment I picked up this book, it immediately caught my eye. From the cover, to the blurb to the opening chapter, this book left me wanting more. I always look for the chemistry between characters in the books I read and the chemistry between Joselyn and Slade is electrifying. Slade, who is the Sheriff also has down home values in the form of a teenage stepdaughter. Being from different sides of the track, we witness Slade's vulnerable and doubting side. There is no way Joselyn would turn her affections toward him.

Joselyn on the other hand catches her breath and fights butterflies whenever Slade is around. Trying to right wrongs her stepfather committed, we see a dedicated and giving side to Joselyn. I know I am just beginning to read the climax of the book and simply can't wait. You definitely don't want to miss Big Sky Country which will be followed by his half brother Hutch's story in "Big Sky Montana." I will be back in August with a review of that book.

When We Met Again by Dawne Prochilo

Review:
When We Meet Again is a love story that tears at the heartstrings for a love that long ago almost was and could be again .... if these two main characters would let pride be and just give in to their feelings. Right from the beginning Brynn's character could have been me, while Ethan's character was the man I always dreamed of. Ethan's character was one of conviction with a secret burning for Brynn. In his adolescent years, he calls Brynn's boyfriend, Hart, for the abusive bully that he is. Brynn is captivated by a popular boy who seems nothing like Ethan describes and so begins the saga.

My first reaction when I put this book down was WOW! I felt emotionally drained which is one of the best things an author can leave me with. I felt as though I had a vested interest in these characters all the while, I was swept away with the story line. Ms. Prochilo has taken description of abuse scenes to the next level as each and every scene was extremely realistic. Although I have never read anything by this author before, I will definitely be making myself familiar with her work. When We Meet Again is a book that you certainly don't want to miss out on.

A Marshal of Her Own by Linda LaRoque

Review:
From the beginning of this story, we find that Dessa Wade is a strong willed character who is about to find out things aren't quite as they seem. Armed with ambition and a sassy attitude, Dessa finds herself in one very unexpected adventure. Enter the hunky, drop dead gorgeous Marshal Cole Jeffers, Cole cannot believe his eyes when Dessa appears out of nowhere. Instantly attracted to her, Cole finds himself questioning his bachelorhood.

The relationship between Cole and Dessa simply sizzled. The back and forth banter between the two had me giggling at moments and at others, mentally screaming "kiss her, hurry!" Cole was not your ordinary man, he was a man of strength and character, with a lot of humor and pure male hotness thrown in. Dessa was the quirky new woman in town who raised a few eyebrows with her actions. Cole's main concern was trying to help this woman uphold her good reputation. He was a man who had his hands full.

Each time I read a Linda LaRoque book, I am swept away to a world of intrigue where the characters are enchanting and genuine. I have to admit that historical romances have not always been my favorite genre to read but there is something about the way Ms. Laroque presents the story. I never really thought about the expectations of the time period and the concessions one would have to make to live in the 19th century vs. the 21st century.

Ms. LaRoque brings her characters to life with vivid descriptions and effortlessly weaves humor with drama. This is one author who has definitely done her research on life in the 1890's. Any book by Ms. LaRoque is one I automatically add to my to be read list because I KNOW it's going to not only be a fun read but educational as well. Treat yourself to a the luxury you deserve and take a few hours to sit down and read this book. A Marshal of Her Own was a visually creative, touching and uplifting romance. I highly recommend this book.

Starr Dust by Lauren N. Sharman

Throughout the entire McCassey series one thing has remained a constant. Behind every devastatingly handsome bad boy, there is a woman of strength with the ability to bring that bad boy to his knees with just one look. Let me introduce Brady McCassey. Just as the rest of the McCassey clan, Brady has a reputation for being rough around the edges. Add a drinking problem to that and you have the potential for some dangerous situations. When Brady sets eyes on Starr, the hippy fortune teller, all he can do is stare. Brady finds it hard to introduce himself until a little blackmail from Georgia, his cousin, finds him face to face with the pint size cutie herself. From the moment they meet, the action, attraction and intense feelings of love and conflict will leave you begging for more.

I can't say enough about the plot line in Starr Dust. With bad guys coming at Brady from every direction, the carnage they cause and the riveting action scenes, I found this book to be a fast paced, edge of your seat read that I simply could not put down. The underlying element in each of the McCassey books is family sticks together. And boy can they tear up some stuff together which is another reason Starr Dust is such a gripping read. I'll give you a hint, do NOT miss the barn scene. I held my breath all the way through that scene.

I've said before that Ms. Sharman is one of the most talented writers I know. She knows how to write grit one minute and wit the next while seemingly blending everything together effortlessly. If you are looking for an outstanding romantic suspense book with real characters, look no further. Lauren Sharman's writing is clearly addictive, especially in the McCassey series. Starr Dust is the 3rd book in the McCassey Cousins series and the entire book from start to finish will blow your mind! My advice to you is to buy this book. HURRY! After you are left wanting more, here is a list of the rest of the books in the McCassey series. Each book is as good as the one before. Hands down this is a book that you simply have GOT to read. Interview with Linda LaRoque and Giveaway!

First, let me just say that I am a HUGE fan of Linda LaRoque's work! During this interview with Linda, you'll learn more about her book "A Marshal of Her Own" and of course the wonderful writer behind the fabulous book. So without Delay, let's get started shall we?

Linda LaRoque is a Texas girl, but the first time she got on a horse, it tossed her in the road dislocating her right shoulder. Forty years passed before she got on another, but it was older, slower, and she was wiser. Plus, her students looked on and it was important to save face.

A retired teacher who loves West Texas, its flora and fauna, and its people, Linda’s stories paint pictures of life, love, and learning set against the raw landscape of ranches and rural communities in Texas and the Midwest. She is a member of RWA, her local chapter of HOTRWA, NTRWA and Texas Mountain Trail Writers.

Women of Controversy in Waco, Texas

My time travel romance, My Heart Will Find Yours, is set in 1880s Waco, Texas. Located on the Brazos River, in its early history, Waco was known as Six-Shooter Junction. Trail drives herded their cattle across the Brazos in Waco and the cowboys usually spent time in the bawdy houses of the Reservation or Two Street as the red-light district was known. Drinking in the multitude of saloons and card games sometimes led to fights, often involving the use of firearms.

When the suspension bridge opened in 1870, and the railroad arrived in 1871, business in Waco thrived. Trail drives repeatedly lost cattle when herding their livestock across the Brazos. It wasn’t uncommon for a man to be caught in the undertow and drown. Cattle bosses were willing to pay the 50 cents per animal to get their cattle across safely.

In her book, A Spirit So Rare, Patricia Ward Wallace broaches the topic of how women forged a path in the early history of Waco. Her chapter on prostitutes is titled Women of Controversy. Since prostitution plays a minor role in my western time travel romance, I’d like to borrow her title and share some of what I learned.

The first noted record of prostitution in Waco is documented in an 1876 city directory. Matilda Davis of 76 N. Fourth St. is listed as a madam with 10 occupants in her house. The women listed their occupation as actress. Waco had no playhouse at the time. In 1879, the city issued the first license for a bawdy house for an annual fee of $200 and a good behavior bond of $500.

Waco officials legalized prostitution within the Reservation in 1889 making Waco the first town in Texas and the second in the United States to condone a controlled red-light district. Madams paid a yearly fee of $12.50 for each bedroom and $10.00 for each bawd. Prostitutes paid an additional $10.00 license fee and paid the city physician $2.00 twice a month for a medical exam. This guaranteed they didn’t ply their trade outside their designated territory and were disease free. The city prohibited drinking within the area. Fines for violators ranged between $50 and $100. With the large number of prostitutes it’s easy to see the city benefited from trade within the Reservation.

Prostitutes were prohibited from being seen on the streets outside the Reservation yet they were allowed to trade with local businesses. No more than two at a time could travel via a city hack to the stores. Usually tradesmen sent clerks to the curb with merchandise. Some store owners required the prostitutes to stop at the back door.

Life was hard for these working girls. Violence abounded in the bordellos as did drug and alcohol use and abuse. Though licensed, the police had little to do with the establishments. The madams disciplined the women in their houses and maintained order among their clientele. On occasion the police were called when robberies or assaults occurred.

Waco’s most famous madam was Mollie Adams. She had worked in another house but in 1890 opened her own three-room operation. By 1893 she had a seven-room establishment. In 1910 she’d obtained enough wealth to commission a house to be built by the same firm that built the First Baptist Church of Waco and the building now the Dr. Pepper Museum. Her home at 408 N. Second St., had indoor plumbing, electric fixtures, two parlors, a dance hall, and a bell system wired to every room. Her portrait, included here, hung over the fireplace. Though wealthy at this point in her life, she died in an indigent home in 1944. Lorna Lane, the madam in Madison Cooper’s epic novel, Sironia, is supposedly modeled after Mollie Adams.

In 1917, the US Government ordered cities with military bases to shut down red light districts to protect the health of America’s soldiers. Not wanting to lose Camp MacArthur and its 36,000 troops, the city shut down the Reservation in August of 1917. It is rumored some bawdy houses managed to continue business through the 1920s.

Dessa stood still and watched as they conversed. Something stank to high heaven about this entire situation. Why were the cops chasing robbers on horseback? It’s not like Fredericksburg was that isolated. She glanced at the captured men. The boy moaned, and she made a step to go over and help him. The Marshal spun, and the expression in his eye froze her in place.
“He needs first aid.”
“He’s fine. The Doc will tend to him when we get to the jail.”
“You could at least call 911 and let them patch him up for you.” She nodded to the man lying so still with his eyes closed. “Your other prisoner doesn’t look so good. He’s going to die on you if you don’t start CPR or get him some help.”
“Lady, no one is going to hear a yell from out here. Never heard of any 911 or CPR.” He propped the hand not holding the shotgun on his hip and threw her a disgusted look. “Are you blind? That man is dead, shot through the heart.”
Her head swam for a moment, and she struggled not to give in to the sensation and faint. She drew in deep gulps of air. “Well...well..., what about the coroner and the meat wagon, not to mention the CSI folks? If you don’t get them to record the scene, how are you going to cover your butt? The authorities might say you shot him in cold blood.”
He looked at her like she’d sprouted an extra head. “I don’t know what the hell you are talking about woman. No one will question my authority. I’m the law in this county. Now, be quiet, or I’m going to gag you.”

I always love me some Maddie and Jack! I just have to chuckle at this short story. Maddie and Jack have always been my favorite characters and we get a short glimpse into their rather odd Christmas Eve. One unique and colorful character after another interrupts their romantic night alone and poor Maddie and Jack, they just want a night alone. Is that too much to ask for? Well of course it is if Gemma Halliday is writing you as a character in another laugh out loud story. I had to laugh at Mrs. Rosenblatt, she has to be my favorite secondary character of all. If you're looking for zany, mischievous, quirky and fun, look no further. This short story is all that and more,

I've always been a fan of Gemma Halliday's since the first book I read from her. Yes, this is a quick and fun read but if you read some of the other books that involve Maddie and Jack, it makes Christmas in High Heels that much more enjoyable. I highly recommend you buy this book and while you're at it buy one of the previous books with Maddie and Jack and you'll see I'm telling the truth. It makes this book just that much more fun. Great job Ms. Halliday. I know when I pick up one of your books it's going to be a laugh until I cry. It's always a fun time!

Secrets and Lies by Jamie Hill

Review:
Natalie and Alex are the couple everyone strives to be. They adore each other and their children. Everything is perfect in their lives until one day when everything is changed. It makes me wonder how I would have reacted. The way that Natalie felt about having children made me laugh, I've been her. Poor Alex, I felt for him and had to laugh each time Natalie said "Honey, I want to have another baby." Through their fights, laughs, and struggles with their own feelings, I found Natalie and Alex to be a perfectly imperfect couple. The daughter Gillian had me balling my fists in frustration from time to time and simply because I have daughters that would react as she did. I wish I could say more about this book but it would give away the story, so on that front, I'm zipping the lip.

Seldom does a short book deserve the highest rating from me, but Secrets and Lies moved me more than I expected. Since it is a short read, the excitement is in finding out what actually happened twenty years ago. I must say that this was a very touching story that at times made me want to cry. Yes, this is a very heavy topic but Ms. Hill has done an outstanding job of weaving her way through the story in a manner that does not bring the reader down. The characters throughout the story were so realistic and the topic is something that I am sure many people have faced in real life. Ms. Hill nailed the relationship between a husband and a wife. Yes, they fight but how they deal with their arguments is so like a normal couple that I couldn't help but to draw from my past experiences. Relatable, memorable characters along with an amazing plot line make Secrets and Lies a story that you simply cannot miss.

My Life As A Dog by Mike and Cynthia Arsuaga

Review:
After reading the very last sentence on the very last page, my first reaction is WOW. I say this for a couple of reasons. First, I am not ordinarily a shifter reader and second, how in the world can a shifter who turns into a Yorkie be sexy? This is where the "wow" factor comes in. Never have I read a book that has thrown my preconceptions out the window as this book has. Very early in the book, the first shifter scene actually, it is evident how being able to turn into a cute little dog works to Drake's advantage. His reaction to what he turns into was priceless and made me laugh out loud. A very important part of the book is the beginning. Although the pacing does seem a little slow at first, this is where the foundation lies for the rest of the book. No worries though, when the book does pick up, it is a very fast paced action packed book.

Drake Martin and Kady Harley have a relationship like none I've ever read before. It was fascinating how Mike and Cynthia Arsuaga have developed these two characters in such a tender way. They are able to bond in a way a normal couple never can. The loyalty that Drake shows toward Kady touched my heart and made me just want to say awwwww. As the book develops, so does the relationship between these two exciting and funny characters. The heat level between Drake and Kady soars and I'm more than surprised that my book didn't spontaneously combust! I am a die hard romantic suspense reader who loves humor sprinkled throughout the pages of whatever it may be that I am reading. My Life as a Dog had me laughing out loud at moments and holding my breath at others. This is, hands down, a book that captured my attention and kept it there.

I would like to tell Mike and Cynthia Arsuaga BRAVO! It is not very often that I can say a book changed my opinion about an entire genre. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in paranormal romance. Please keep in mind that some scenes are very erotic and may offend those who aren't interested in erotic. Otherwise, I suggest you run out and buy this book. Read at your leisure because you don't want to miss one thing. I enjoyed my time spent reading My Life as a Dog and look forward to reading more from these authors.

Review:
What do you get when you combine a tall cowboy with to die for good looks and one very independent real estate agent? Hotness that's what! I instantly fell in love with Charity's character. She was the city girl with a no nonsense attitude. Joshua was the type of character I love to read about. The tall brooding cowboy with a sentimental streak won me over the moment I was introduced to him. The pull between Joshua and Charity was intense with sparks flying between the two the entire story. If I set aside the fact that these two characters lit the pages on fire, one element that impressed me was the medical angle. I don't want to give away that part of the story but by addressing the medical issues surrounding Joshua's mother, another layer was subtly added to the story.

What a perfect way to get in the holiday spirit. With compelling characters and steamy love scenes, I found Charity to be a page turner. I have never read anything by Ms. Holly in the past and thoroughly enjoyed this quick read. I would have loved to see Charity in full novel length. If you are looking for a fun filled novella to read on your lunch break, I highly recommend buying this book. It will definitely put you in the Thanksgiving mood! This author has now become an automatic add to my "to be read" list.

Twist of Fate by Sandy James

Review:
Little House on the Prairie, watch out, you have competition!  Nelly has nothing on Caroline (from Twist of Fate) and Daniel is the new Charles.  Let's start with James and Susan shall we?  It's obvious these two are head over heels in love with each other but over time have forgotten the qualities that once took each other's breath away.  The qualities that once endeared them to one another are now viewed as annoyances. The sensual tension between these two was electrifying.  Abigail is the good daughter who wants the best for her father Daniel.  Daniel, having lost his wife a couple of years earlier, had lost the spark in his life.  That is, until he meets Susan.  There are other quirky characters in the book but I have to say my favorite was Caroline.  She was full of manipulation and games yet such a child, a fun character indeed. 

On to the plot line.  I love this particular story for several reasons.  Not only is this not like the other books in the Damaged Heroes series because of the time travel aspect, it is also not your typical romance book.  Normally, it's the beautiful young heroine and the devastatingly handsome hero.  In Twist of Fate, it's about real people.  People who have self-esteem issues, ego issues and control issues.  It's about making a decision that will affect the future of many people, not just those involved.  It makes you think about the paradox.  If you do something in an era gone by, would it affect the future?  Who will Susan pick, the man who is everything she could possibly want?  Or will she choose the one man that she has always loved that may not love her back? 

Twist of Fate is certainly a book that will stay with me for a long time.  In fact, when I am driving and every song I hear reminds me of the book, I know that book is going to be a winner.  I wish each book had a soundtrack to it, because I heard some perfect songs for it on the way home.  It must be said that I have loved every one of the Damaged Heroes books and all for different reasons.  Each book can be read as a stand alone book.  The one constant is the talent with which Ms. James writes.  In my opinion, a talented writer is one who can evoke almost every emotion you possess and still leave you wanting more.  Ms. James is most certainly one of the top authors on my list to highly recommend to others.  To Ms. James, I would like to say "Job well done and I can't wait to read more."  To the potential buyer of this book, BUY IT!  You will not be disappointed.  If you love Twist of Fate, here is a list of the other books in the series.  They are all books you just GOTTA read!

You're back? Oh good, now let's talk about this gem of a book. Yes, like you, I had a hard time getting past the cover of this book but when I did, I laughed so hard sometimes I thought I might cry. Kyler Landon is one of those types of dream characters you look for in a hero. He is gorgeous, caring, funny, down to earth and protective of his lady. Oh and did I mention that he loves animals and volunteers his time for good causes? *dreamy sigh* Cooper is a woman that is about to turn into the woman she was always meant to be. She's gorgeous, straightforward and just a sweetheart. She has a lot of obstacles to overcome and a lot to learn about herself. The first time she meets Ky, is action packed and a perfect start to the story. Cooper can handle her own and that's why I took an instant liking to this exciting character.

Now for the plot. I can't say enough about the plot. It took my breath away. There are moments when Ky is faced with the fact that he might lose Cooper and Ms. Hunter writes with such flair that I felt his desperation and it broke my heart. Another was toward the end (I can't give away spoilers) when Cooper was confronted with something from her past. I could feel the terror she felt. I love it when an author can actually draw me so far into a book that I forget my surroundings. T-R-O-U-B-L-E was one of those books for me.

It has to be noted that Ms. Hunter has taken the subject of domestic abuse and simply nailed it. The feelings that a battered wife might feel is exactly what was portrayed in Cooper's character. How a future partner should handle a problem such as this was just the way that Ky did. This is an important subject that needs to be graphic in order for the reader to get into the character's mind and understand the urgency of the situation. OUTSTANDING job Ms. Hunter.

So all in all, Trouble was one sensational read filled with action, suspense and humor. I simply can't say enough about this book. At the end of the book, it states that T-R-O-U-B-L-E is the first book in the series. YES, can you believe this is a series book? It just keeps getting better. After you read Ky's story, I know you'll want to read his twin brother Ty's story in My Aliyah which comes out in January 2012. They are all part of the Texas Heat Series. Ty's story is not out yet but you can bet that I'll be first in line when it releases. So hurry and buy T-R-O-U-B-L-E, you're gonna love it!

Review:
If you are looking for a fascinating read that will keep you on your toes, look not further as Ms. Swift has just provided you with this very book. My first thought when I finished the last sentence on the very last page was "Wow, just wow". No matter how good of a review I give this book, it can not adequately describe my feelings and how much I fell in love with this book.

The depth of the characters is a vital element in this story. If this book had not delved into each character as much as it did, I believe it might not have been as captivating. Yet with just the right amount of background information and character development, I felt myself completely immersed in the story line.

Clarissa's character is a strong young woman who holds fast in her convictions. Not above putting herself in a position where gossip and rumor might surround her, Clarissa takes on the duty of being a nurse. Here she meets Phillip, an integral part of this book. Clarissa's life will never again remain the same. With full bodied characters, I could not help but feel connected to each and every character. Even the villain in the story held credibility and at times I felt almost sympathetic towards him.

This Time Forever is set amidst the tragedy that we call The Civil War. Rich in heartfelt emotion, be prepared to be swept away with compelling characters as well as an intriguing plot line. Ms. Swift has captured the essence of this time period in the little details of the characters behavior, their dress and even down to the way they speak. I was fascinated with the interaction through letters between those in the battlefield and their loved ones.

This Time Forever will captivate you through the heartbreaking and graphic details of a time when war bred hate between states as well as brother against brother. The twists throughout the story stole my breath and left me surprised but eager to read on as I just had to find out what happened next. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a captivating romance. Although I am a huge fan of Ms. Swift, I have to say that this is the one book that stands out from the rest and is my personal favorite.

How did you come up with your Fool's Gold series?

I knew I wanted to create a series based on a place. In the past, I’d written series based on a family, so once I ran out of siblings, I ran out of stories. Readers kept asking me for more in every series. They loved that sense of connection, and they wanted it to go on. Debbie Macomber was the one who suggested I stop writing about families and start writing about a place. With a place, the story possibilities are infinite. (Debbie Macomber is like my Mayor Marsha – I never say no to Debbie! She’s a genius.)

The place itself needed to have a strong identity. As I was brainstorming the series, I heard a story about the then-upcoming 2010 census, about everything a town can discover about itself from census results. I wondered, “What if there was a man shortage?”

So Fool’s Gold was born… the town with the man shortage. But instead of making the women eager to get more men to town, I tweaked reader expectations and made the women strong, self-sufficient, and kind of crabby that anyone would think they need more men. They can run the town just fine without men. Which means that any men who do move to Fool’s Gold have to earn the right to live there . . . and they have to earn the hearts of the women they love.

What draws Dakota and Finn to each other?

At their core, Finn and Dakota both value their families more than anything. Finn thinks he wants to be done with his familial duty. He wants to get his brothers through college so he can return to his days as a carefree bachelor, but he will learn that he’s not that guy anymore. Somewhere along 
the way, he grew up. At heart, he’s a family man.

You love to write about families, such as the Hendrix triplets. Why?

I was an only child, so I love writing about the big, boisterous family that I never had. Triplets are an extension of that – three sisters who have been together since birth. Each of the triplets has her own personality, but the experiences these three women have shared throughout their lives make them as close as it’s possible to be.

You’re known for both the depth of your characters and for your humor. Do both come naturally to you?

I think men and women falling in love with each other is inherently hysterical. Who came up with that bright idea?! Men do everything they can to avoid emotion, and yet they’re irresistibly drawn to women, who overflow with emotion. When I get teary-eyed over a commercial, my husband looks at me like I’m completely nuts. There’s this constant push-pull between men and women that never really goes away, and it will always be funny to me.

Most of my storylines are not funny in and of themselves. My characters deal with some very serious issues in their lives, but their ability to find the humor says a lot about their resilience. I like people in real life who can laugh at themselves, and I like that in characters, too.

Do you plot your books before writing?

I do a lot of plotting in advance, which means I can write the story quickly, which further means that I don’t lose interest. For me, the creative rush is highest during the plotting process, and the actual writing of the book is more about getting the story down on paper. I’ve tried 
writing without a plot, and it just doesn’t work for me. I enjoy the aspect of surprise, but I dread revisions. Even when a book is thoroughly plotted, though, the characters can sometimes surprise me. I was sweetly surprised by a secondary romance in ONLY MINE.

How many more Fool’s Gold books will you write?

There will be at least seven more books after this year’s. In 2012, three delicious cowboy brothers and their younger sister will move to Fool’s Gold. And in 2013, I think I’m going to establish a bodyguard academy on the edge of town. After that, who knows? If readers clamor for more from Fool’s Gold, anything’s possible. Are you working on anything new outside of Fool's Gold?

BAREFOOT SEASON, my next women’s fiction novel, will be out in April 2012 and will launch a new series set on quaint Blackberry Island. The story is about two former best friends who form a turbulent truce to save the inn they both love.

The recent Buzz has been that you have your own team of Cheerleaders for the release of Only Mine and the books to follow.  How did the idea come about?  What is their purpose?  How did you choose the squad?


Often, I hear from excited fans who discovered me because someone put one of my books in their hands and said, "You have to read this!" It moves me. And this year, it inspired me to create the Fool's Gold Varsity Cheerleading Squad. I decided to form a team of avid readers to share with the world their love of Fool's Gold, the Land of Happy Endings. (Fool's Gold is the setting of my ongoing series of romance novels. It's a quirky small town in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Fool's Gold is dealing with a man shortage. This year's stories center around the Hendrix triplets. They are ONLY MINE, ONLY YOURS, and ONLY HIS.) The cheerleaders will earn lots of prizes along the way for doing what they love - talking about books - and I will dedicate a book next year to the grand prize winner.

I invited my fans to "try out" for the team by sharing three creative ideas for spreading the word about Fool's Gold. I was overwhelmed by the response! More than 500 fans tried out in the first few days, with some pretty amazing ideas. As I read through their applications, their enthusiasm brought a lump to my throat. I wish I could have accepted every one of them and had a cheerleading battalion that could take over the country. Unfortunately, I 
only had 25 advanced copies of ONLY MINE to give away. Selecting the final 25 was a daunting task. I wanted to get a good mixture of people who emphasized online ideas and those who emphasized in-person ideas, such as standing in front of a bookstore on release day, wearing a sandwich board, ringing a bell like the Salvation Army. (Yes, she got picked. Hi, Stacey!) I also wanted cheerleaders from all across the U.S., so geography played a 
role.

I don't know if it was pure luck or my discerning genius, but I am thrilled with the cheerleaders who made the team! They've handed out bookmarks, talked to people at the bookstore, called long distance friends. And now they're doing a blog tour to tell the world how much they love Fool's Gold!

Why did you try out for the squad?

Angela: Honestly? Because I thought it would be fun. I LOVE Susan's books... I've been a fan of hers for years. It's hasn't really felt like a competition.... more like a group of women with similar interests. Already, I've met more people than I imagined and it's only been going on for a week!

Kelly: Sister of the Bride, which was part of the Summer Brides anthology. I could relate to Kate being a complete tomboy and sportswriter myself.

What's your favorite book by Susan?

Beccie: My favorite book of Susan's would have to be from her Buchanan Family series, "Sizzling".  I love Reid's character and how he falls in love with the smart and understated Lori.  I guess I see myself in Lori and that's why I love it.

How did you discover Susan for the 1st time?

Stacey: I am an avid reader of the Harlequin Desire line and found Susan that way.  Her “Millionaire” series was my favorite.

Jen: My Aunt had given me a stack of books & Susan’s was included…I can’t remember the title now (of course), but it was with the ex football player & a bakery.

What made you an avid fan of Susan's books?

Heidi: Susan's writing made me an avid fan!  I love the way her writing can pull me into a story, make me feel part of a small town, and fall in love with the characters.  As I began to research her list of back-list, trying to find more to read, I found that Susan is a very fun and out-going person.  The creativity behind Fool's Gold website is brilliant and has me wanting more and more from this small community of people.  I love how Susan tries to connect with her readers through her website and blog...the videos, yummy recipes, and I love the fun stories and pictures of her dog, NIKKI.

Have you read only mine yet?  What do you think?
Angela: Yes! LOL... and I loved it!! My daughter adopted a child just this year. She has 2 children, but we nearly lost both of them with her second child. Her husband refused to let her bear any more children, so they decided to adopt. The months and months of filling out paperwork, and it happened just as suddenly for her as it did for Dakota. I really liked how strong Dakota was--she never whined or complained about the hand that Life dealt her. Finn was a hero who was easy to respect. Even though he comes off strong in the beginning, you know WHY he's the way he is. He's like the parent, but not. And so close to feeling like he could do "his" thing.

Why should readers buy this book?

Kelly: Because it will make you smile. This is the perfect escape from reality with some wonderful characters read.

Marilyn: Why not?

Any favorite quotes from the book?

Angela: "You're not funny," her mother snapped. "If you think this is humorous, you're wrong. I'm in crisis here. A really, really big crisis. I feel sick to my stomach, my head hurts, I'm retaining enough water to sink a battleship. I'm a woman on the edge. You need to respect that."

Charlotte: "Mom I'm pregnant!"  bhahahah I would have been killed but her mom embraced her and wanted to share in her love.

Jennifer: She is humble and an absolute doll!!

Jen: She’s amazing!  I never thought she would be as involved with our squad as she has been.  Everyone and I feel I need to keep up & stay on top of those.

Review:
Seriously, the first line goes like this ... "Not bothering to shave, Nick McGraw pulled on shorts and yanked on a tee shirt." If there ever were a first sentence to grab my attention, that was it. Nick's character was oh so yummy and I just couldn't get enough of him. Cassi is a fiercely independent woman with an inner strength which are must have qualities to me in a leading lady. There are several examples I could give but all would give away a part of the book. I can say, however, the sensual tension between Nick and Cassi is electric. Sparks fly off one another when they are in close proximity. I held my breath during each encounter they had with each other and continued to want more throughout the book.

There was a remarkable plot twist in the story that was very unexpected. I found this twist to be fantastically planned out. The villain was dark, twisted, demented and a character I loved to hate. The stalker's voice throughout the scenes was very prominent and dark. A vast difference from Cassi's, which made all of the scenes with the stalker so believable and edgy.

Deadly Reflection is the type of book I couldn't put down. My favorite elements of this book were the progression of drama and the increasing suspense. Nancy Kay set the perfect pace, included characters that I became personally invested in and blew my mind with the ending. What more could a girl ask for? This particular author has a fantastic ability to weave a story in such a way that I hated to see it end. Which is why I was pleasantly surprised that Deadly Reflection is book one in the Deadly Triad series. Yessssss! Look for book two: Deadly Revenge to hit shelves on February 1, 2012. Highly recommended seems like such a cliche' label when giving my opinion of this book. My opinion is so much higher. Deadly Reflection is a book that you just can't miss. I absolutely loved this multi-faceted story. Anything Nancy Kay writes from now on will be an automatic add to my "have to have" books.

Review:
I don't think I've ever read a spirit traveling book until now and I must say I think this is a fascinating subject. What was most intriguing was how the author accounted for every question I could possibly have pertaining to this particular time travel. As much as I loved the plot line in the book, what I will forever remember about this book is it made me laugh. Not just a little bit, but with Mrs. Dorn's shenanigans I laughed out loud constantly.

Dani's character, although only 16 "going on 17" , is far too grown up for her own good. She is witty, intelligent and speaks from her heart. Having to put up with a mother that is hard to please and controlling, Dani finds refuge with her uncle. The one man in her life that brings sunshine to her rainy days. Troy is a handsome investigative reporter who has honed his ability to retrieve the information he needs from those who may be less than willing. He's charming, dedicated to his job and is a softy on the inside no matter what he might portray on the outside.

There is no doubt as to the chemistry between Dani and Troy. However, the one thing that impressed me the most was these two were able to nurture a spiritual bond (since Troy was not able to physically see Dani) rather than the physical "love at first sight" element that is often found in romance books. As their affection for one another increased, so did the humor of their situation. Dani was that voice inside Troy's head that just would not shut up. I often wondered if he slipped from time to time and argued with Dani out loud while there were people around. It was often that Troy was left at a loss for words because Dani was not like any other woman he had ever had the pleasure of keeping company with.

So much happens throughout the story that I just can't touch on for the simple fact that it would spoil it for you. Humor, heartbreak, silliness and sensual tension made this a book that will most certainly be staying on my "to be read again" shelf. Together Again is part of a series but having not read any of the previous books, this book can certainly stand on it's own. Ms. Barbour gives just a hint of the books before (and a possible book in the future) which was enough to tantalize me into reading the entire series. I am a series kind of girl, so this book is just the beginning for me. I would like to take this moment to congratulate Ms. Barbour on a job well done. I look forward to reading the other books in the series. This is definitely a book that I highly recommend.

Review
Is it possible for me to love two men? Yes, it is. I thought Dare from When You Dare was my favorite hero of all time but now I am torn. Trace is a to die for hottie with a very edgy side until he meets Priss and then all bets are off. My favorite parts of the book are when he can no longer contain himself with Priss. Trace is the kind of guy who is prepared NO MATTER WHAT, yet finds himself injured by little bitty Priss. I don't mean emotionally injured, I mean physically. That scene had me giggling.

If there is one heroine that I do not want to mess with, it's Priss. When she has a goal in mind, don't try to stop her just move out of the way. She is a strong character with a gritty past, which actually serves her purpose throughout the story. I wish I could state examples here of the plot line but there are so many twists and turns that it might give it away. I just cannot bring myself to do that.

I enjoyed being able to revisit Dare, Molly, Chris, the dogs and LOVED Matt's character. Affectionately known as "Hairdresser", he made me laugh so hard. Trace of Fever deals with heavy subject matter that I think a lot of other authors just couldn't pull off. Ms Foster is one of the best. Sexual tension is laced throughout this book and very often I might add. This one element alone had me captivated. I was up all night reading Trace of Fever and I hated to see it end. In the epilogue (I am a lover of epilogues) we are introduced to Jackson in more depth. He gets his own book Savor the Danger which comes out toward the end of June I believe. Savor the Danger is already on my list to buy and I can't wait until it comes out. You really do have to read this entire series. Romantic suspense at it's finest, there is never a dull moment. I highly recommend this entire series to those who love a juicy story line with some breathtaking characters.

When You Dare by Lori Foster

Review:
I think I'm in love. I first fell in love with the cover. I don't think it can get hotter, can it? Then when I met Dare (I even love the name), I fell in love with his don't mess with me attitude, all the while showing his tender side with Molly. Being a reviewer, I fell in love with the edge of your seat plot line and suspense. And finally when I was finished with the book, I fell in love all over again with the back cover. :)

The characters throughout the book were incredible. I kept thinking, "now this is what a well developed character looks like". Molly was the character that I feel every woman would like to be. She was strong yet showed tenderness. She was smart yet kept an open mind. Yet throughout all her strengths, she was pure woman and had doubts about herself. This one trait made her character so relatable. I was tickled at Molly's occupation as I could relate very well to when she spoke of how you can't please all readers. I must confess that I felt a tiny bit of connection to Lori Foster through Molly's occupation. I kept wondering if Ms. Foster ever had to deal with crazy fans like that.

Now may I talk about the yummiest character in the book? Honestly, you have got to read the book to appreciate all that Dare has to offer. He's like the mercenary I want to wake up to every day. What made him different is yes, he protected Molly, but he was fiercely loyal and protective of his friends as well. He had no problem telling his best friend Chris that he loved him in a macho man sort of way. And speaking of Chris, where can I order one of him? Pretty much Dare's right hand man, he kept every detail of Dare's life in order. His wit and humor had me chuckling throughout the book.

Although this book was 448 pages, it was the perfect length. When You Dare is one of those books that you think about while you're doing your everyday chores. You hurry to finish so you can get back to the book. The attention to the most minute detail just kept me flipping the pages just as fast as I could. I don't want to give any of the book away because it's such an outstanding piece of work and you must read each page yourself. I did not think the suspect would turn out to be who it actually did. To know When You Dare is only the first book in the series had me scrambling to find out what the other books were and when they would be released. The Men Who Walk the Edge of Honor series will be a keeper on my shelves. I can't wait to read the second book, Trace of Fever. Ms. Foster is one of the most talented romantic suspense writers of our time. She certainly has outdone herself with this addicting series.

Review:
Whew, this was one hot book. Marooned is book two in the Wicked Missions series and I must say I am loving this series. I never thought I would be the type of person that fell in love with something Sci Fi but this story is more about the relationships between Matt, Drake and Betinsa than it is dealing with otherworldly characters. Don't get me wrong this story does not lack action in any way. In fact, get ready to go on a fast paced action filled ride because this book has it all.

Betinsa's character was one of my favorites because she is taken right out of her comfort zone and delves head first in one hot and steamy romance between two men. I enjoyed Matt's character in Locked In (book one) and was so glad to see that he got his own romance and with the lovely Betinsa. Matt made me laugh with the little jokes he would crack and no one would think it was funny. Don't worry Matt, I thought you were funny and laughed at every single joke. Drake's character was the typical alpha male. The tall good looking man that was hard as nails on the outside but all soft and mushy inside once it came to Betinsa. *dreamy sigh* I love Drake.

The plot line was fantastic and filled with action. Betinsa is from a culture where the woman is essentially the bread winner in the family. Her culture also expects each female to have two male soul mates, which works out fabulously for Matt, Drake and Betinsa. I can't give away too much of the action scenes but let me just say you don't want to miss the middle of the book and the furry little rat looking creatures. Especially Matt's reaction to them.

Like I said before, I really love this Wicked Missions series and can't wait to read Bounty which is book three. Luckily there are seven books so far in the series so I will always have another book to look forward to. I highly recommend Marooned even if you aren't a fan of alien beings. A fascinating read, Marooned will keep you on the edge of your seat and will certainly leave you satisfied.
